Standedge Tunnel, near Huddersfield
I wasn't really expecting to see anything craft related on a visit to the longest, highest, deepest canal tunnel in the country. Perhaps some painted barge ware, but not these two.
A nice felt Victorian bargee oversees the tea room. Of course, he is very unauthentic, as he looks far too clean. "Legging" a boat through the tunnel took around 3 1/2 hours. He would have had a nice cold shower on rainy days when he went under the ventilation chimneys, and a blast of smoke from the trains in the adjacent rail tunnels every time one passed on the mainline from Leeds to Manchester.
While I'm about it, I'd better show you some pictures of the actual place.
