Highland Clearances
This series of tapestry panels tells the story of part of the Highland Clearances. The Duke of Atholl wrote to all his tenants in November 1786 offering them a free piece of ground and wood to build a house and garden near his mill at Stanley, just north of Perth. The catch was that they all had to leave their current homes to make way for more profitable sheep. The panels are on display in the museum at that mill.
